 | Solvent A solvent is a liquid, solid, or gas that dissolves another solid, liquid, or gaseous solute, resulting in a solution.
The most common solvent in everyday life is water. Most other commonly-used solvents are organic (carbon-containing) chemicals. These are called organic solvents. Solvents usually have a low boiling point and evaporate easily or can be removed by distillation, leaving the dissolved substance behind.
To distinguish between solutes and solvents, solvents are usually present in the greater amount. |  | Base Oil There are five specific categories of base oils. These categories define the type of base stock the oil is formulated from. The categories are as follows. An oil composition which has a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of from 32 to 50 cSt and which contains less than 3 wt. percent polynuclear aromatic compounds is employed as a process oil for rubber compounds, especially aromatic rubbers. The process oil is compatible with aromatic rubbers but contains less toxic polynuclear aromatic compounds than conventional aromatic rubber process oils.
